Jemma turns 3 - The Cake

Untitled

I can't believe my baby is already 3. First we need to start with the cake. My mom made my cakes and I loved them so I feel compelled to put myself through the torture of making them. I'm always proud I did it, but the process can be painful. I seriously start thinking and prepping way in advance to try to minimize the damage. Jason's is a lot easier because I'm not working in the summer. I had a Barbie cake when I was little and loved it and surprisingly Jemma started getting into Barbie's right before her birthday. She had decided on a Cinderella theme which surprised me because she'd never seen Cinderella nor did she have a Cinderella doll. But Cinderella is so strongly connected to princesses she knew who she was. We have Disney princess books so I'm sure that is where she heard it. Jemma has always like purple and has been getting into pink so I showed her pictures of Rapunzel and Sleeping Beauty but she wanted Cinderella even after I showed her pictures. So after looking on Pinterest and seeing Barbie Cinderella cakes that was the direction we decided to go.

I got her an actual Cinderella Barbie as a present to be a part of the cake so that took care of one present.

Since I needed the doll for the cake, I let her open this one early. I wanted to be clear that the Barbie was a present. It worked fantastic because then I didn't have to decorate her top. I just wrapped up her legs so they wouldn't get dirty.

Here I am putting down a crumb layer. I wrapped the top of the doll in case I got a little crazy. This is my least favorite part because I tear the cake sometimes. I just stress ok!

Here we go! Time to start on the dress. I decided to do a ribbon looking dress because it seemed a little easier and different than the stars. I also love ombre and decided now would be a good time to do it.

Bottom layer done. The good thing about the ribboning was that it was very forgiving or at least it was the way I did it.

Next layer! This is not a perfect ombre but I hate messing with frosting, bags, coloring, tips, etc... so this was my way to not have to deal with it as much.

Done! I actually really loved it and of course do did the birthday girl.

Someone could not wait to eat the best part - frosting!

I think it passes the test.

Soccer Practice 2014

Jaxon played soccer again in Kinsley in the Spring. It was so much more enjoyable for us this year because they really taught the kids about positions so they weren't all running around chasing the ball. It finally started clicking for the kids and they learned about defensive and offensive positions. Since I'm behind on blogging I'm going to put all the practice photos on one and all the games on a different post.

Jemma Exercising

Look at this picture and you'll see a frame on the coffee table. Before the kids started fighting with their balloons in the picture, Jemma was exercising and the frame was her exercise video. She has seen me do videos from my iPad and set it up like that so she will take a frame and start doing her own exercises. Yes I have it on video.
