Papaw's Birthday

We went to the farm the first weekend of February. That Saturday was Blake's dad's birthday so we went out to eat with his parents in Pratt to celebrate.

The whole group: my parents, Blake's parents, my brother and his girlfriend Erica, and Jer Bear. (Granny was snowed in at Denver.)

The Face

Jemma has been doing this face lately.

She just opens her mouth in this huge smile with no sound coming out of it. (No sound is a nice break.) She is so cute when she does this. Every time she does something new I always wonder where she got it from. I think this one is from Daddy. I hope to get some more good pictures of her with "the face".

Jaxonism:
"Jer Bear" is my brother Dustin's friend, Jeremy, who was at the farm last summer helping my brother work on his place when we were there helping with harvest. We got to spend a lot of time with him and Jaxon and him became best buds. The other day we were in the car playing 20 questions and I picked Jeremy for Jaxon to pick. I was giving him some hints and I told him that he was Uncle D's friend. When I told him who it was he said, "Mom he is not just Uncle D's friend. You may call him a friend, mom, but I call him family."

Jaxon and I somehow were talking about fire and when we had the fire near Satanta last year and had to evacuate. We were saying we were lucky and we know one family that lost their home and how sad that was. I was saying how sad it would be too lose all their stuff but at least everyone was safe. Jaxon agreed and then it hit him, "Did they lose all their jewelry?" What a fashionista!

Wake Me with the Alarm Clock

Jaxonism: The other night while praying before bed Jax thought of an appropriate amendment that he should not wake with the sunshine bright but with the alarm clock. He said it would be to late to wake with the sun. So the prayer is now:

and wake me with the alarm clock. Amen.

Almost Made it to Mommy

Yesterday I told Blake we were not going to let Jemma take a nap after school so that she would get to bed on time. She was not too happy about it and getting pretty fussy. I was in our room and Blake said she was crawling trying to get to me and just crashed.

I finally got a picture of Jemma standing and on Sunday she took her first steps! I was helping Jaxon on the computer and Blake had Jemma in her room. It was getting close to bed time and she was cranky. Blake said she was screaming and mad when he stood her up and she took about 3 steps to him. She was crying pretty hard so I'm not even sure she knew what she was doing but it counts. She hasn't done it since but it's only a matter of time!

She'll stand better if she has something in her hand because she is always reaching for something.

Diaper Duty

When Jemma was first born Jaxon wanted to change her diaper all the time but he hasn't asked to do it for awhile. The other day he wanted to change her diaper so of course I was glad to let him. It's so cute when he helps take care of her and she just sits so good for him. She wants to be wherever he is at all the time.

Carnival

Sunday after church we went to Sublette for the Relay for Life carnival that was held at the high school. It's not really big but fun for Jaxon and we were able to spend just a little money and spend about an hour there then go home to relax.

Uncle D Was Here!

My brother came out to visit this last weekend and Jaxon was so excited! Friday night was homecoming so we went to that then on Saturday we just hung out which was nice to not be running around.

Get Your Motor Running!

Since Jemma is standing and getting ready to walk, I remembered that we had this car that was Jaxon's she could use to push around and practice walking with. We brought it up and had her try it out. You can put the legs together so they can ride it or they come apart so they can push it. I went to go get the camera to take pictures of Jemma on it and came back to this.

Jaxon drove her around for a little bit and she loved it. She loves her Bubbie! Did I mention that she says Bubba now along with Mama and Dada. She's not real consistent but we count it. She's also started doing some of the baby signs we've been teaching her. It is so fun to see the way they do the signs. It reminds us of how Jaxon did them.

There she goes. She loves to crawl back and forth into the living room and her room. When I say her name she will stop and look back at me and wave, laugh, then turn around and crawl really fast.

Happy 9th Anniversary

January 4 was our 9th wedding anniversary. I already said that I spent the actual day being sick but Blake did a good job of taking care of me and the kids while I was out of commission. I can't believe that it will be 10 next year! Wow we are really getting old. It's really crazy when you add that to how long we've been together - 14 years! We don't like to spend too much money on gifts for each other since we just had Christmas but Blake got me a rose (my fav) and a really special Willow Tree figurine. I will admit when I first saw the box I was thinking Oh another trinket but when I saw it it was perfect!

Isn't it adorable and just right for our family right now. Jaxon even saw right away the resemblance and said, "Mom it is you with me and Jemma." How precious! This "trinket" is a keeper that I'll always display.

Getting Better (We Hope)

I got everything caught up on the blog and was so excited to keep up with it then everything got sidetracked when I got sick on our anniversary January 4. Then Jaxon got sick then I got sick again a week later then Jaxon's been getting sick every 2 to 3 days. So we've been trying to get caught up and back to normal but sickness keeps tripping us up. Just when I think things are getting back normal Jaxon would get sick again. He's doing better now so hopefully it will stick this time. (Fingers crossed, prayers said)

So I am going to slowly get back into this. Unfortunately most of ours days have been filled with trying to keep the sickness at bay.

Updates: Jemma is now standing on her own! She started not long after New Years. I've had a hard time getting a picture of it but will keep trying. She just pushed off of the chair she used to pull up and was standing by herself. She has even stood up without holding on to anything a few times so get ready because she will probably be walking before her birthday!

Jaxonism:
It was raining the other day and it was windy also. It wasn't really raining very hard but you have to understand that where we live it doesn't rain much so Jaxon doesn't have a good reference. I will say it was really windy which made it seem like it was raining hard. Anyway he was talking and asking questions and like a bad mom I was half listening and half thinking of what I needed to do. I heard him say something about dogs and asked him to repeat and he said, "It's raining dogs. We'd better run to the building quick because it is raining dogs." I guess I need to teach him the whole phrase of raining cats and dogs but I like the way he says it.

We went to a friend's house and hung out for New Year's Eve which was perfect. We were so tired from all our traveling that the idea of a big New Year's Eve party did not sound fun right now. We had a great time eating, playing games, and catching up with good friends.

I was a little worried because in the afternoon the wind came up then our electricity went off about 5. I had some stuff in the crock pot already so we went over early to friend's that had electricity. But thankfully it came back on about an hour and a half later.

I didn't get many pictures taken. (I was kind of pictured out.) So here's a few Happy New Year's pictures from Jemma.

Blizzard in Satanta (And We Missed It!)

The blizzard that hit when we were on our way to go skiing ended up getting Satanta pretty good. Since we didn't get back to Satanta over a week after it hit I figured the snow would be gone. Most of the time when they say we're going to get a lot of snow it is not much. We were surprised to see any snow still on the ground when we got back so of course Jaxon had to go out and play in it. He wanted to make a snowman but the snow just wasn't good for that so he settled for a snow fight with Daddy.

Christmas morning we woke up to see what Santa brought then we went to Blake's parents. His sister, Molly, was there visiting from Pennsylvania with her boyfriend, Rusty.

We came back on Friday from skiing then the next day was Christmas Eve. It was pretty hectic but it ended up good. Here are some pics from the day.

More Skiing

We went skiing for 2 days. We debated about sending Jaxon to ski school or if Blake and Erica should take lesson since they hadn't skied either. We found out we couldn't make it to ski school the first day for Jaxon because that was the day we got our rentals and we would be too late by the time we got them so we just decided to suck it up and help everyone ourselves. Wow! First off I haven't skied in forever so I was worried about myself plus when I skied in high school I was in way better shape (and a lot smaller). This is the first time I've ever helped people ski because I've always gone with people that could ski already or I needed help when I was younger. It is a lot of work! I really thought that Blake was going to hate it after the first day. But he did a lot better the second day and ended up liking it.
Jaxon was another story. The first day he kept begging to go to ski school. (Personally I hated ski school when I went in Kindergarten but Jaxon is a different child than me.) Then he would argue with us instead of listen when we tried to help him. We were all ready for him to go to ski school the next day. He loved ski school and ended up being top in his class.
All in all it was a good experience for all of us and hopefully it won't be another 15 years or so until I go again.

Skiing in Breckenridge!!! (Condo, Shopping, Tubing)

The week before Christmas (Dec. 19 - 23) we went skiing in Breckenridge with my family - my parents, my grandparents, and my brother and his girlfriend (Erica). We had so much fun! Jaxon, Blake and Erica had never been skiing. I figured up and it has been since I was about 15 since I've been skiing so about 15 years. (I forget how old I am.)

First off here's the condo! It was so awesome! Lots of room with 4 stories and a hot tub. We were right by the mountain. In fact there was a lift we could walk to but since we were with a bunch of newbies and people who hadn't been for a long time (me) we took a bus over to the greens. My tradition since I was little is to take pictures of where we are staying at so as to remember what it looks like. I took a few pictures but didn't get all of it. I'm a little bit busier keeping track of the kids now so I tend to forget things.

We originally planned to leave on Monday the 19th and just to go Goodland then go the rest of the way Tuesday. But there was a huge blizzard that came through so we went all the way on Monday. So we had the whole day in Breckenridge which was nice so we had some extra time to go to main street and walk around the shops.

Tuesday night we went over to Keystone and went tubing. This was a test run to see how Jemma would do without Mommy and with Granny and Papa watching her. She didn't do so well but it wasn't as long days of skiing. Fortunately it did get better.

When we first got out to the tubing area Jaxon got really nervous and didn't want to go. We finally got him talked into it then he wanted to keep going. The only thing we would change would be to do it earlier. It got dark and then really cold but other than that it was a blast.

Jaxon's Christmas Class Party

I made the treats for Jaxon's class party. I wanted to make something a little different so I made cake pops. (Stupidly didn't get any pictures.) They turned out pretty good but I learned what to do better the next time I make them. I also made some rice krispies in candy cane shapes with frosting.

Mama's Girl

Right now Jemma is a mama's girl! I love that she wants me so much right now even though sometimes it makes it harder to get stuff done. Nothing feels better than to hear her cry then see her face light up when she sees me. I am enjoying it now because who knows how long it will last. Here are some pics of her standing up holding onto me while I am cooking in the kitchen. Hard to get supper on the table with all this cuteness around!

Gingerbread and Caramels

In first grade we always do a gingerbread unit and then at the end we make gingerbread houses. It is always a mess but lots of fun for the kids. I was excited to be able to share this with Jaxon this year. I usually take pics of my students doing this and of course when my own son is there I forget my camera! I did get some pics on my Ipad but I'm too lazy to try to get it from there onto the blog so here are some pics of his finished product at home. We take the easy route and make them with graham crackers and use milk cartons to make them stable. We do have real gingerbread men the next day so they all get to taste gingerbread.

I started making caramels a few years ago for Christmas presents and now people are used to me making them so that is all I make for gifts because people like them and they're fairly easy. I have a microwave recipe so making them is easy. The tedious part is cutting them and wrapping them. Fortunately this year Jaxon was able to help me. He liked to cut them apart with the pizza cutter which is actually a part I don't like. We blasted Muppets 12 Days of Christmas and cranked out the caramels.

Church Christmas Program 2011

On Sunday, December 11 was our church's Christmas program. Jaxon was not very happy to be an angel. He said it was for girls. I thought he was cute though. Jemma almost made it through the whole thing. She is just so loud even when she's happy. We try to make it through church most of the time unless she gets to distracting.

Santa Visit

We went to see Santa at the community building in Satanta. Jaxon was determined he was not going to have any problems with Santa because he did it last year. When we got in line he started getting nervous though. I was able to talk him into going up there. It helped that they had a sleigh that Santa was in so he could sit by Santa instead of on his lap. Jemma did a great job! She sat on Jaxon's lap and just looked at Santa trying to figure him out. Jaxon thought it wasn't fair that he cried as a baby but Jemma didn't.

On Tuesday night, December 6 Jaxon had his K-6 music program at the high school auditorium. Notice the new suit Jaxon picked out. Remember Jaxon and his fashion sense. The main reason he picked it out was because of the chain on the vest. Very snazzy Jax!

Thanksgiving weekend Jaxon lost his first top tooth. It is amazing how much it changes a person's looks. It really makes him look older. He was so excited!

Jaxon's top tooth had been loose for awhile but he was still nervous even though he had lost 2 bottom teeth already. Blake convinced him to get it out by yelling at it. So Jaxon was in the bathroom yelling, "Get out of my mouth!" until it came out.

Jaxon loves to take baths with Jemma. She is pretty cute in the bath. She gets so excited for bath. We're pretty lucky she likes it so much from when she was first born.

New Foods

Jemma's doing a good job eating food. So far she's liked everything. She's had sweet potatoes, bananas, rice cereal, oatmeal, avocados, green peas, carrots and yellow squash. She has also had some banana puffs that she can chew but will melt in her mouth so we don't have to worry about choking.
We have to watch our fingers when we feed her so she doesn't bite us. She's been working on picking them up and getting it in her mouth. She can pick them up but it doesn't always make it in her mouth but it's good practice. Sometimes she throws them on the floor for a snack when she's crawling around. (wink)

Here she is eating some banana that I pieced up for her. Just have to watch to make sure she only gets a little bit at a time.

"First Snow"

We had our "first snow" in November. I have it in quotations because it was snow coming down but melted as soon as it hit the ground. Jaxon was so excited that it was "snowing" though he had to go out and play in it. Hopefully he'll get to play in some real snow soon.

Jemmaisms:
- Jemma can pull herself up really well and is starting to walk while holding on.
- She cut her seventh tooth on Saturday, December 2. We think she's trying to keep up with her age - 7 months.
- When you pick her up she likes to pat your back like good job.

Jaxonisms:
He says so many funny things but I forget to write them down. He's had an ear infection he's fighting and I just wanted to write down in case I forget how frustrating it is to determine how sick he is because he's ALWAYS going! He'll say he doesn't feel good and he'll sit down for about 5 minutes then he's up and going again. He did that recently so I didn't take him to the doctor and just treated the pain when he mentioned it. Sure enough he ended up with an ear infection and went to the doctor. I'm writing it down to remember to take him to the doctor first! I thought it would get better as he got older because he could communicate how he felt but we still have to try to figure out how bad it really is - a bit of a drama king at times.

Jemma's Baptism

We had Jemma's Baptism on October 30th in the Satanta United Methodist Church. This little girl sure is loved here is who came: (my side) Grandma, Grandpa, Granny, Papa, & Uncle D; (Blake's side) Mamaw, Papaw, and Grandpa Ploger.

We got some pics beforehand. I got a few pics with my camera but my mom was there taking pics so hers will be much better but I wanted a few to post. She's really busy these days with photo shoots so it takes her awhile to get to our photos sometimes. But that's ok because we get really awesome photos at a great price *free*.

I asked my mom awhile ago if she still had my baptism outfit. We dug around and found it! I knew that we wouldn't do it until school started and I was baptized at a young age so I was a little concerned it would fit but it worked out great! I decided to update it a bit by picking out a cute headband off of Etsy. (Love that site!) I wore a bonnet with mine. I planned on getting some pics of Jemma in the bonnet but that didn't happen in all the hoopla but we'll get them soon.

Jemma is a diva already. This is her second dress she wore for the day. I didn't want her being in the baptism outfit all day because I want to keep it nice so maybe her daughter could wear it at her baptism. I found this adorable dress at Target.

The weekend before Halloween my parents came on Friday to watch the kids while we went to a Halloween party then on that Saturday my grandparents and brother came out because we were having Jemma's baptism that Sunday. (Busy weekend!) We also celebrated Granny's 76th birthday that was actually on Friday. I didn't get any pictures of that for some reason. We went down to Liberal and ate at Ruffino's - Italian food Yum!

I posted awhile ago about Jaxon writing Blake cute notes on our whiteboard. Then he decided to make a huge sign and post it.

It says, "No farting in the house."

I didn't realize he was going to be putting a letter on each paper until it started going up. This was the weekend before Halloween and my parent's came that Friday to watch the kids so we could go to a Halloween party.

And yes we kept the sign up for awhile. Now he has plans for another sign to go in his room. I'll post when he gets it up.

We took a quick trip in October to my parent's farm to see my brother sing in church. Of course I have other pictures of our stay but none of Dustin singing. I actually got to see it but not much longer after I had to take Jemma to the nursery. She was happy but was squealing really loud so after awhile I took her to the back.

One Reason I'm Too Busy to Blog

Yes I have many excuses that I want to quit using and be more consistent on my blogging but that's not me or my life. Here is something that I was busy doing in September and the first 2 weekends in October.

I helped coach a 5th and 6th grade rec volleyball team. We only had 6 girls and 3 weekend we only had 5 girls. The weekend of the tournament we went in with a decent record. That day we had all 6 girls and had to play 4 games in pool play. They won all of them then we went into bracket play and had to play 3 games in a row and WON the tournament. There were lots of ups and downs for the season but the girls really pulled it off in the end. I'm so proud of them! I also had a great time with some really great family friends the Howies who were also coaches.

So that took up a bunch of Saturdays so there is one excuse down.

Not a Thumb Sucker!

Jemma is NOT a thumb sucker! When she was first born I tried and tried to get her to take a binkie like a good little girl. Jaxon had one and it was a life saver most of the time. We really didn't have a hard time having him give it up so I am not opposed to them at all. I mean if they don't have a binkie then what do you do when they're upset?

I was worried she'd be a thumb sucker. I was afraid that it would be hard habit to get rid of especially since you can't just hide the thumb like you can a binkie. And thank goodness so far she's not a thumb sucker...

BUT

Two fingers are even better than a thumb! Stinker!

Kansas State Fair 2011

We went to the State Fair this year on Saturday, September 17. Blake and I haven't been since our senior year in high school when we marched in the band. Jaxon's never been to the fair and we thought it would be a good time to go because he's at an age to enjoy it and Jemma's small enough to keep track of in the stroller. It ended up being a really good day because it was overcast and cool. It's usually really hot and I don't like hot at all.
Jaxon loved the fair. The main thing for him was the carnival rides. The only rides he'd been around was on Satanta Day so the State Fair was a big deal to him.
We went with my mom, dad, brother, my brother's friend Jeremy and his wife. Blake's parents meet us at the fair and my Granny and Papa were also there with Papa's tractor at the fair. It was fun to see everyone but kind of crazy to keep track of everyone with all the people there. We gave Jaxon many talks about staying with us at all times and to not wonder off. He did a good job.
We'll definitely have to go back. We didn't get to do everything we wanted but we took our time so we wouldn't be too rushed.
The adults were excited to try all the fair food. Lots of fried stuff. Blake and I tried the fried cookie dough - Yum! Here's some other stuff we tried - bierocks, root beer, frozen cheesecake, fried pickles, corndogs, and I'm sure other stuff I forgot.

This was actually Jaxon's favorite part of the fair. They had a sky ride. You could get off on one end or take a round trip. Jaxon rode it with Blake and me different times.

Grandpa got Jaxon his own motorcycle helmet so he had to try it out. He loves dressing up and pretending to be different things. We have a big problem with clothes right now. He changes them all the time and comes up with complete "outfits" that goes with the theme of the day or whatever he wants to be or what he sees on T.V. That means we have clothes everywhere, all the time, and we're constantly telling him to pick them up! He's such a diva! He's into picking out my jewelry now. I think Blake's a little worried! But then 2 seconds later he's dressed as a biker dude or out playing football. Right now he says he's going to be a football policeman when he grows up.

He wanted me to ask him questions and I was running out of things I knew he would know about Johnny Appleseed so I asked him why he never got married. Jaxon thought a minute and said, "Well, I'm kind of weird. I wear a pot on my head."

I have a need to put this in chronological order - it's just the way my brain works - so this disturbed me. I realized between uploading photos to Photobucket and Facebook I somehow didn't get all of my pics uploaded on Photobucket to my August album. Then I panicked and thought maybe those photos were lost. But alas they are on my computer and I have them uploaded so I am going back to the beginning of August and then somehow it will catch up with my other posts. Sorry for the confusion but this probably really only bothers me.

Labor Day Weekend

We had not been to the farm since the beginning of July so we decided we'd make a quick trip back to see everyone. Here's a quick rundown of our busy weekend:
Friday - leave after school to go to my parents
Saturday - hang out on the farm and take Jaxon's 6 year old pics and Jemma's 5 month old pics, around 3 visit my friend Tara to see her new baby, then head to Pratt to see Blake's mom, leave around 8 to go back to Satanta
Sunday - Blake goes to Garden to help his dad move his aunt's stuff, Blake came back around 4 then set up to DJ a birthday party for our friends' kids
Monday - attempt to relax and get ready for school the next day
Whew!

Promotion Sunday

One Sunday in August they had what they call Promotion Sunday where they get back in the groove of Sunday school for the kids and do some games during that time. Then during church they promote those that are older to the next class.
Jaxon is moving on to the 1st and 2nd grade class. We got one picture of him going up there real quick. Not much but something I guess.

Mini-Vacation

We needed to do some back to school shopping but that is hard to do with a little baby and a 6 year who gets bored and the ridiculous heat that we had end of July into August. Blake and I also had a lot to get together in our classrooms since we have to split the time so someone is home watching the kids so we didn't want to have to travel very far. We decided to go to Garden and stay in a motel so we could have a cool place to go and rest and also Jaxon could swim. It was a smart move!
We did this at the end of July which is my mom's birthday so my parents and brother came up also. We were able to relax and shop and not be in a hurry. Blake and I also got to see the last Harry Potter movie. (It was so good but so sad that it's over!) Jaxon and I got to have a mommy-son date and see the Smurfs. Another good movie.
Jaxon's favorite part was the pool though. My parent's room was right by the pool so we were able to hang out and watch Jaxon. He swam for like 5 hours straight while we took turns watching him and Jemma and going shopping.

Bubbie Helping After Bath

When Jemma was born, Jaxon decided he wanted to be called Bubbie so that is who I am referring to. I'm so used to it now that I call him that even when Jemma isn't around sometimes.

Jaxon wants to help out with Jemma as much as he can. He's always telling me, "I need to hold her because I haven't yet today." He also does great changing diapers (with supervision). Lately he likes to help after bath. He does it all - put on the diaper, lotion, put on her pajamas, and comb her hair (even though we debate about how to comb her hair - difference of artistic opinion.) Jemma is so patient with Jaxon while he's trying to get it all together on her because she is quite the wiggle worm on the go.

Jaxon took swimming lesson in July. He did awesome! He was able to swim some last year without his jacket but we always had it and made him wear it if we weren't in there with him but now he doesn't need it. It took a little convincing he could still swim in the deep end without his jacket also but now he'll go anywhere without it, even off the diving board!

Here are some pics of Jemma in the saucer that we had when Jaxon was a baby. It is such a life saver and really helped her with hand eye coordination. I don't think we got it for Jaxon until he was 6 months old but put Jemma in it at 2 or 3 months. Wish we would have had it sooner for Jax now!

Here are some pics with Jemma and Kace. Kace is exactly 2 weeks older than Jemma. His mom and I work together at the elementary school. We even took walks together after the babies were born to try and take off those pregnancy pounds (still working on those).
We got together this summer in July when they were about 3 to 4 months. They grow so quickly!
Jemma and Kace go to daycare together also. I don't think they pay too much attention to each other though. They can sleep through the other one crying which is good. I have seen them playing side by side and accidentally holding hands which is cute. They also get their arms going and sometimes grab hair so we'll see how much they like each other as they get older.

Right after Jaxon's 6th birthday, so July 1, his bottom right tooth got really loose. He tried hard to get it out and we all tried too. He was really excited but also scared. He wanted it out but was afraid it would hurt so it didn't come out right away. The next few days we spent a lot of time in the bathroom in front of the mirror trying to get it out. He wouldn't let any of us try to pull it out but maybe once. He didn't like me or my mom to try because we have sharp nails he didn't want in his mouth. Then when it was getting really loose he saw the blood in his mouth and freaked out. So it was all very dramatic!

Finally we left it, even though it was hanging on by one little root. Then on July 4th, Jaxon was eating breakfast and all of the sudden NO TOOTH! He was so excited as we all were for him. He was glad it came out with no pain BUT we never did find the tooth. So we left the tooth fairy a note and she brought him a dollar in quarters anyway. He actually wasn't that upset that he didn't have the tooth. He was just relieved it was over.

First Tooth Jaxon Lost - Bottom Right

A week later on July 11 Jaxon lost his left bottom tooth. This time he pulled it out himself and wasn't as scared since he knew what was going to happen. We were able to put this tooth under the pillow.
