A Little Homeschool

Jaxon didn't have preschool last week because the church is doing construction (long story.) So he wanted to do some school at home. I knew that M was coming up at school so we did some M stuff. We read some M books and I printed off some M papers to work on. We read Mouse Paint where these mice get in paint and mix colors to make new colors. I got out our finger paints so Jaxon could mix the colors himself.

Then I had a cookbook on cute snack ideas for kids to make. So we made mouse ice cream. All you need is ice cream, oreos, M&M's, and we used licorice (the book suggests sprinkles which are too small too handle). I think you get the gist from the pics.

Days of the Week Song

Here is Jaxon singing the Days of the Week song that he learned at preschool. I think he sang it through twice and just finishes when he feels like it. Grandma says he's ready for Kindergarten now!

Basketball Outfit

On Sunday evenings we get together with our friends in Satanta to play basketball in the high school gym. Of course we take the kids so they can run around and get out their energy. You know how I LOVE basketball so it's usually a highlight in my week. Lately Jaxon has decided that this is "basketball outfit" he has to wear when go. Here he is posing.

Weekly Update

It's been a fairly boring week with not a whole lot going on but it's still felt long. We had Jaxon's parent-teacher conference this week. His teacher said he was doing really well. That helps us as we decide if he's ready for Kindergarten next year. It's kind of tricky since he has a summer birthday. I'm not too stressed. My mom is a Kindergarten teacher and thinks he'll be fine so maybe I should listen to her years of experience. I guess what is strange is that in 2 years he'll be in first grade which is what age I have. It's hard to imagine him like my first graders. It's amazing how quickly they grow and mature.
Nothing else too exciting going on. I know that it will hit us all the sudden where we're busy every night so I'm trying to enjoy not being too stressed and busy.
We started a new job chart for Jaxon. We got one at the dollar store when school started for fun and he really liked it then we got busy with the holidays. I made one for him and he loves it! I know I sound like a dumb teacher-mom using my school techniques but he loves it and he will do stuff on it just to get a sticker. If he didn't like it I wouldn't do it but he likes the structure of it. Sometimes I think I'm not as structured for him because I'm so structured with my class I just want to relax at home. I'm telling you though, kids do better with routines. That is true with Jaxon at least. It makes it easier if I stick with a routine (but he also has to learn flexibility.)
Here is Jaxon sleeping in his K-State football outfit. He went to bed in his PJ's then changed himself.

Bowling

Last Saturday we checked out Sublette's bowling alley with Burrows and Howies. We found that it was really pretty nice with a good concessions selection and reasonable prices. We want to go back on a Saturday for extreme bowling which starts at 9 and you pay a flat fee for unlimited games. Good times!

Jaxon found real bowling different than the Wii (he's bowled a 223 on the Wii!) but he still enjoyed it. The kids bowled on one lane with the bumpers and the adults bowled without even though I think we needed the bumper too.

The kids started a second game and got bored so they went to play video games while the adults finished their game.

Where's the Weed?

"I want to play the weed!" - which is Jaxon's term for our new Wii. Not too big of a deal except when you're in Wal-Mart checking out and Jaxon wants to know where the "weed" is when we were buying a new game. Also that he wants to hold the "weed".

Another Jaxonism:
Blake and I were having a discussion with Jaxon about something he'd gotten in trouble for at daycare and how he can't do it at school either. Blake said he would get in trouble by 3 people - his teacher, his daycare provider, and mommy and daddy. Jaxon let Blake finish talking then he calmly said, "Daddy that's 4."
Pretty hard not to laugh. He was right so Blake had to correct it by saying - get in trouble 3 times.

It's Magical!

"It's magical!" - that's what Jaxon said after we set up his new aquarium. He got it from Santa when we were at my parent's. He could hardly stand it to wait until we got back to Satanta to get fish. We got back on Monday, December 28 but didn't get to go to Garden until Tuesday. Thank goodness I told Blake to open up the box before we went to get the fish because when he opened it we found that it was broken. We took it back to Wal-Mart and got our refund. It actually turned out that it was cheaper now so it all worked out. Jaxon picked out 4 little goldfish and 2 snails. The goldfish names are Alvin, Simon, Theodore, and Brittany (Chipmunks) while the snails were named by Blake - Harry and Lloyd (Dumb and Dumber). As you can tell we're movie people.
We got it set up as soon as we got home in Jaxon's room. He was so excited he just kept going in his room and staring at it and repeating - "It's magical!" He loves his new pets!

7th Anniversary

I forgot to post this yesterday. Better late than never. Happy 7th Anniversary to us! Yesterday, January 4, was our 7th. Unfortunately we had to celebrate with a return to work. School wasn't too bad though. It was much easier to celebrate our anniversary when we were in college and had a longer break. I still am happy with the date we picked though and we were so lucky that there wasn't a snow or ice storm that day. My mom mentioned the other day that Blake's been around a long time - 13 years to be exact! I wish I had a scanner so I could post up one of our wedding pictures. Maybe another time. For now - I love ya babe!

Gingerbread Cookies

Granny bought a gingerbread cookie decorating kit that had 8 gingerbread men already made with decorations all in one box. All the cousins (me, Dustin (my brother, cousin Faith, cousin Tyler) + Jaxon made together with Granny's supervision. We all actually had fun making them. I didn't taste them because they seemed to be more for decorating not tasting. This is the last of the cookies we made and decorated over Christmas - Finally!
